Opportunity School is an alternative school and credit recovery program available through WCESC to the county’s high schools. VCSLearn will administrate the program and provide highly qualified online teachers. The lessons are provided by PEAK/GetFueled . Steven Searle will mentor both programs. Mr. Searle brings ten years of online education success and experience to the Opportunity School program.
Opportunity School students will remain enrolled in their home district, and be allowed to participate in sports and extra-curricular activities if they are otherwise eligible. After meeting the necessary requirements, they will also receive diplomas at their home school’s graduation ceremonies. But Opportunity School students will not attend classes at their home school. Normally they will access their lessons online from home, although PEAK lessons are available anywhere with internet access. Success in any online program requires multiple layers of support for students. VCS online teachers will provide regular support, feedback, and assistance to students. In addition, Opportunity School students will report to WCESC one day each week to receive one-on-one academic assistance and technical support from the program’s mentor, Mr. Searle. He will be available to remotely assist students throughout the week, and will serve as the contact person among students, parents, school administrators, guidance counselors, online teachers, and WCESC.
Credit recovery students will work on their online lessons at their home schools, or at home. Otherwise, they will have a normal class schedule. The WCESC program mentor, Steven Searle, will be available to remotely assist students throughout the week, and will serve as the contact person among students, parents, school administrators, guidance counselors, online teachers, and WCESC.
